Load up Squidman and select Squidman -> Preferences. The reason you need a proxy on your Macbook is so you can access the website you're developing locally via the local network on your iPhone. Enter the IP Address of your Mac in the Server and port 8080 in the Port.Goto your Wifi settings again (you should still be in there).Setup your iPhone wifi to use your Mac's Proxy To do that go to your Wifi connection and select info. Whilst you're there you need to get hold of the IP of the iPhone when it's connected to your local network. Then select Advanced and you should see the Web Inspector option in the menu: Just go to Settings on your iPhone select Safari in the menu. To be able to use web inspector on the Mac to interrogate the DOM in Safari on the device, you need to enable Web Inspector. In my example it's automatically assigned using DHCP. This is the IP address that has been assigned to your device. Look for the en* entry (it's the ethernet network adapter) where there's an inet entry starting 192.168.* which are always naturally reserved local network IP address ranges. Inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 Bring up a Terminal and type the following command you'll see something similar to the proceeding output too: $ ifconfig So you can actually debug and inspect your website in real-time while using the website on your iPhone which means you'll be able to view the DOM of the page on the actual device. I'm pretty impatient when I realised that (and us developers love our lazy (or clever) shortcuts!). Well, you could take educated guesses but that may take a while and you'd have to use trial and error for that task. The problem is, what hope do you have of fixing and resolving a bug with your website unless you know why it's breaking and you can't do that without inspecting parts of it in combination with browsing on said device. I assumed it was Safari specific so tried using Safari in emulated iPhone mode - could I replicate it? Nope. When trying to open the side-menu on an iPhone 4S, I noticed that the side-menu popped out varying distance but only on the post page not the index page. One particular issue was a complete pain (and no thankfully it's not as bad as yet another s *ty IE hack!). However, there have been times when I've totally been stuck for a bit on cross-browser problems and device specific issues. Mostly it's gone okay, even cross-browser. For the past couple of months I've been working on this site.
